Roberto Gomez Gonzalez

Director, Group Purchasing

El Corte Inglés

Leveraging his extensive experience at Walmart Mexico and as a founder of an ecommerce startup, Roberto Gomez Gonzalez was recognized for his work advancing integration of digital technologies and data-driven decision-making in the retail sector since taking office as the Retail CEO at Ametller Origen.

The Ametller Origen Group, based in Catalonia, has sustainability at the center of its business and aims to provide consumers with access to nutritious and clean food so they can maintain healthy, sustainable lifestyles. As a result, the company has invested heavily in its operations and facilities to achieve climate neutrality, complete sustainability, and circularity.

Roberto’s technology-forward approach also has led to the company’s initiative to decentralize the ordering model and enhance supply chain transparency, setting new benchmarks for operational efficiency and responsiveness in retail. His approach was powered by data-driven decisions (using real-time sales data and forecasts), cross-functional collaboration and teamwork to drive innovation and value creation.

Most notably, Roberto drove the implementation of RELEX to allow Ametller Origen Group to share detailed forecasts with suppliers, including manufacturers and farms, to ensure a seamless and efficient supply chain. RELEX solutions also have helped bolster Ametller Origen’s retail strategy, which includes bigger stores with larger assortments — a strategy Roberto shaped and drove.
