With extensive experience in fresh produce procurement and merchandising, Allen Warch has used his strategic vision and leadership to help advance emerging retail areas at Dollar General (DG). Because he has a deep understanding of DG’s customers and communities, he has focused on ensuring they have access to fresh, affordable and convenient food options.
DG has a vast footprint, with 20,000+ stores in 48 states, and millions of families rely on the retailer for convenient access to essentials, including nutritious food. This is especially true in rural communities: 80% of DG stores are in communities of 20,000 or fewer people.
Embracing DG’s core mission of “Serving Others,” Allen is constantly seeking and implementing better ways to serve the company’s customers and their communities, including:
- The nationwide rollout of Shelf Engine, an AI-driven platform designed to forecast and generate orders, so DG can give customers access to the freshest food possible;
- Launching and developing DG’s 2023 partnerships with Bayer and the International Fresh Produce Association; and
- Increasing the availability of produce by 4,100+ stores since DG announced its plans in June 2021.
As of Q4 2023, DG offers produce in more than 5,400 locations, giving it more individual points of produce distribution than any other mass retailer or grocer in the U.S.
