As the retailer’s EVP and Chief Food & Beverage Officer, Rick Gomez brings deep retail expertise and more than 20 years of experience managing multi-billion-dollar consumer packaged goods brands to Target’s grocery business. He leads a diverse, high-performing team that has transformed Target from a retailer that sells food into a retailer that celebrates food, in-store and online, through its owned brands, curated assortment of national brands and partnerships with minority-owned businesses.
Under Rick’s leadership, Target’s Food & Beverage team has optimized its assortment, featuring only-at-Target owned brands and national brands that guests love and creating a one-stop shopping experience that delivers the special sense of joy that Target is known for.
Rick’s team evolved its owned-brand assortment as guests prioritized at-home routines during the pandemic, adding even more of what guests wanted, with easy, inspiring and delicious ways to make mealtime more exciting. As a result, Target’s owned-brand Food and Beverage business grew by double digits in 2021. As guests face inflation, Rick’s team continues to deliver an innovative owned and national brand assortment so guests can continue to count on Target for value, ease and inspiration when grocery shopping.
Rick’s high-performing team and big ideas have transformed Target into an omnichannel grocery powerhouse: since the beginning of 2020, the Food & Beverage business has grown by more than $5 billion and reported double-digit quarterly comps in 10 of the last 11 quarters. Target is now one of America’s largest digital grocers – growing penetration from 2% to 13+% since 2019.
