At Weis Markets, Ron Bonacci helped spearhead the grocer’s shift to customer-centric promotions designed to help drive shopper retention and growth. As VP of Advertising and Marketing, he drove the implementation of Birdzi’s Strategic Personalization Campaigns (VISPER), which helps create campaigns targeted to Weis Market’s most valuable shoppers.
Birdzi’s AI engines deconstruct each shopper’s profile to suggest the most effective and relevant offers. What is unique about this approach is that it uses the entire store’s catalog to create the offer pool. This allows Weis to go beyond the limited offer pool of vendor-selected promotions and make use of all 40,000+ products sold in the store. Ron’s unique approach to growing and retaining customers has seen exciting returns for the retailer. Results include:
- Net incremental sales of more $13.2 million for 2020 and an ROI of more than 13X;
- 38.2% growth in the number of categories shopped;
- 23.6% growth in the number of trips per shopper; and
- 16.6% growth in spend per shopper.
Ron has had a long career in the supermarket industry and is known as an expert in the area of customer-centric retailing. He has held roles at Kroger, United Supermarkets and K-VA-T Food Stores. He has extensive experience managing cross-functional teams that develop and implement strategies for customer relationship management, marketing, advertising, ecommerce and public relations.
