Winnie Leung

Director, Store Design

Indigo Books & Music Inc.

As the Director of Store Design at Indigo, Winnie oversees all architectural and interior design aspects of the retailer’s stores, aiming to create joyful retail environments that engage, inspire and solve problems through design solutions.

Working closely with cross-functional teams including Real Estate, Construction, Visual Merchandising and Facilities, Winnie reviews store development pipelines, conducts site tours, provides support with schedule- and budget-building, plans team resources and prepares concept design packages that she ultimately presents to executive leadership. She also engages with external consultants for design drawings and supports the execution of construction projects. She led the design initiatives for the current downtown Toronto head office and the latest flagship store concept at The Well, the city’s largest mixed-use development.

Over the past decade, Winnie has significantly contributed to education within the School of Interior Design at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). She served as a part-time instructor in the degree program, where she imparted crucial knowledge to third-year students on subjects such as commercial building construction technology, building codes and fundamental lighting design.

Winnie also taught various courses in the Continuing Education Interior Design Program, catering to individuals seeking career transitions or exploring interior design education. In her role as Academic Coordinator, she developed a summer fast-track program, enabling students to complete the certificate program faster.

“I am deeply motivated by the belief that my work serves a real purpose. Interior design transcends mere sales; it wields the power to bring comfort to users, enhance their wellbeing, contribute to environmental stewardship, convey brand expression and celebrate exceptional design and beauty.”
