How do you explain your profession to people outside of the industry? What do you find most exciting and/or rewarding about this work?

What are the core requirements of your job and how do you measure success?

At the heart of my role is the ability to be a problem solver and a storyteller. I’m committed to creating impactful experiences and preemptively addressing future needs. Instead of being bound by a traditional “job description,” I thrive on versatility. Success, to me, is encapsulated in the narrative behind each design and how effectively it anticipates and meets evolving needs.

What is one notable professional achievement you've made over the past year that you are most proud of?

Winning the Retail TouchPoints 40 Under 40 Award is undeniably a significant milestone for me. It’s an embodiment of my dedication and hard work over the years. Moreover, it reflects my journey as an immigrant, adding layers of pride and accomplishment. Every design, every story I tell is, to a degree, intertwined with my personal journey, making this award all the more meaningful.

What professional challenge or failure has stuck with you, and how did you embrace it?

One of the most enduring challenges I’ve encountered in my profession is the process of letting go. The subjective nature of design can sometimes become a silo, constraining our perspectives. I’ve realized that true growth lies in freeing oneself from these constraints. By embracing diverse viewpoints and allowing a multitude of ideas to flow, I’ve not only allowed my work to shine brighter but have also grown exponentially as a designer.

What trend or technology do you believe will have the most profound impact on your work (and the work of your peers) over the next year?

Technology, particularly generative AI, is revolutionizing the design industry. It’s not just a tool; it’s shaping up to be a collaborator, a co-creator. As designers, we are at a pivotal juncture where adapting to this trend is not just an advantage; it is essential. While this opens up vast new horizons for designers, it also brings in challenges related to transparency, safety and ethical considerations in our projects and relationships. Navigating this complex landscape will be pivotal for our industry.

If you could say one thing to your younger self, what would it be?

Own your story, and let it shine through everything you do.
