How do you explain your profession to people outside of the industry? What do you find most exciting and/or rewarding about this work?

As a senior project manager in construction, I help navigate, manage and build from drawings the architects and engineers create to achieve the client’s design goals. I manage the project in its entirety — from preconstruction through construction and then closeout. It is a great feeling to know that you were given an empty shell and with the effort of the entire team, you were able to translate the client’s vision into reality.

What milestone or accomplishment have you made in your career that you are most proud of?

A big career-defining moment was when Shawmut asked me to temporarily relocate from New York to California to be part of building a client’s visitor center, which then presented me the opportunity to help build the executive wing on the client’s main office campus. I was able to take my years of high-end retail and commercial construction experience and apply it to both of these projects. This helped push my career to the next level and gave me an enormous amount of experience in both retail and commercial work, which has translated to my growing New York project portfolio in both of these sectors.

What is one notable achievement (personal or professional) that you've made over the past year?

I joined the Shawmut Connect mentoring program to help others navigate their careers, giving them a channel and platform to ask questions. I also try and help team members that come to me and seek more knowledge on work and skills they haven’t yet been exposed to in their current roles. I always try and make time for whoever wants help.

What is a piece of media that has inspired you professionally?

I love to follow “Architectural Digest.” Being up to date on the new innovations, styles and construction that different communities are implementing has always been of interest to me. From my construction perspective, it’s interesting to see what elements of new design my clients are integrating into their spaces.
