How do you explain your profession to people outside of the industry? What do you find most exciting and/or rewarding about this work?

I help make building pretty things possible. I enjoy working with team members through all the phases of building — from advising on the designing and detailing, to putting together construction documents, to working with the contractor to construct a space that the end user will love. It’s been rewarding to see a design come to life.

What milestone or accomplishment have you made in your career that you are most proud of?

Working on both the Nordstrom Men’s Store and the flagship in NYC have definitely been the highlight of my career. Both projects spanned several years from start to finish, involved high levels of coordination between many different parties, and required a level of detailing that challenged and fulfilled me.

What is one notable achievement (personal or professional) that you've made over the past year?

When I think of this past year, I cannot think of one big notable achievement. Instead, it is comprised of a bunch of little wins. Working at an awesome company with amazing coworkers. Having a good work-life balance. Getting through a shaky school year with my daughters. Reuniting with friends that I haven’t seen in a long time. Big house projects being completed. It may not be the most exciting on paper, but it’s been a good year.

What is a piece of media that has inspired you professionally?

Please share one fun or surprising fact about yourself:

I am a cardmaker. The scale of creating cards allows me to create little works of art in a manageable timeframe that I can then send to someone. Who doesn’t like to receive mail that isn’t a bill or an advertisement?
