Jeff Folino

Director of eCommerce

Marathon Sports

Marathon Sports originally debuted in response to the 1970s running craze in Cambridge, Mass. as a small running store, and now operates 11 locations in the Northeast. Colleagues credit much of Marathon Sports’ success to Folino, who launched its ecommerce operations in 2012 and expanded it to more than $20 million in revenue in less than 10 years. Folino helped transform Marathon Sports into a leading omnichannel retailer within the run specialty space. In 2020, he led the implementation of several key strategies that resulted in nearly 250% digital growth, which was key to keeping all of Marathon’s brick-and-mortar locations open through the pandemic.

PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT OF THE PAST YEAR

I led a team that brought the entire company’s inventory online and turned 18 physical locations into micro-fulfillment centers in less than a week. I also increased revenue 30% YOY — the eighth year in a row of positive YOY revenue growth that has averaged more than 90%. I am most proud of the entire ecommerce team’s collective action throughout the pandemic.

A PIECE OF MEDIA THAT INSPIRED ME RECENTLY

I’m currently and continually inspired by Brené Brown’s work. I stumbled upon her Dare to Lead podcast during the latter half of 2020. I’ve loved all of the conversations I’ve listened to, which is every episode that has been released. It all seems incredibly apt for 2020 and the ways it has changed the workplace.

FUN FACT ABOUT ME

I spent a few years working at an underwater state park.
